In this genial, family competition we have had complicated feelings about pulling for each other's teams. This is mostly because the teams that people care about are all in the ACC. Will has Duke, Randolph and Lauren Georgia Tech, and Piers and Abby pulled for UNC. We had Winthrop in common, and DAvidson has been a regional favorite (strengthened by Leslie). Nellie helped us pull for Richmond even as Piers has worn down our defenses against Syracuse. But now that the Ivy League is showing it strength, what should we do? Some of us have a hard time pulling for Harvard. So, I looked through our roster and realize we have two graduates of Harvard College among us. Surely they can guide us. Matt Miller left Cambridge a couple of years ago, and Sarah Igo is of a more classic vintage. What can we learn from them about rooting for Harvard? Well, only one of them chose Harvard to win, but he overlapped with Jeremy Lin, so perhaps he is better prepared for Crimsanity. (Barack Obama only went to Law School there. He also picked against them.)

Good points. I've been divided on the Harvard success, though mostly pro. Let me clarify however that I never really pulled for UNC, except against Duke of course. Then I really pulled for UNC. I look forward to Syracuse's successes against all the ACC teams next year.

ReplyDeleteHarvard offers no scholarships, provides its basketball players with a real education, and kicked cheaters off its team. That's more than can be said about most of these basketball programs. I often find Harvard insufferable, but in this case I have no trouble rooting for them!
