A for effort

As Lauren wrote on the previous post: "I cannot believe Duke let a team whose coach didn't have on a collared shirt and tie beat them!" Let the loathing begin.

(Of course, sorry Will.)

  1. Meredith and I have fond memories of Duke and the 2001 season -- and the great game that Will took us to at Cameron. Boozer, Dunleavy, Nate James, Battier... we spent so many evenings in Durham living rooms cheering that team on -- probably once or twice in Will's crazily messy apartment. Anyway, we were rooting for Duke today and were disappointed to watch them go home.

Is it wrong for two people who don't really follow college basketball to be Duke fans? The Blue Devils seem like the Yankees: there should be no middle ground. Either you're a dedicated lifelong fan, or you hate them. Does Meredith's year in Durham provide enough of an excuse to root for them?

  2. You're not the only Duke fans wistful for the days of Boozer, Battier, et al!

And don't worry: *most* Duke fans "don't really follow college basketball".

  3. FROM CLARKSON:

I was touched by Todd's post about Duke. When I was at Carolina (the real Carolina) we like northern version hated Duke. When Will went there I eased up and had fun on my few visits to Cameron. I was sorry to see them lose. Did anyone in our pool call that one right?
When I turned on the games this afternoon grand daughter Ella said, "That is basketball. I want big George to win.". She is pulling for GW and doesn't care if they didn't make the field. Her loyalties are her loyalties and will not lbe detered.
I have moved up to a tie for 12. If UCLA and Pittsburg don't pick it up I will be back to the "Loser Chooser" name.
